Why Well Aware?

Over 42 million people in the United States use private wells. Because the federal government does not regulate private wells, most well users are solely responsible for testing and treating their water. Well Aware aims to help well users test their water for E. coli, an important indicator of bacterial contamination, lead, and arsenic. Well Aware also connects users to resources for help in treating their water.

What is Well Aware

Well Aware is a free mobile phone app paired with a low-cost testing kit. Well Aware can currently test for bacteria (E. coli), lead, and arsenic, and more tests are under development.

Who is Well Aware?

Well Aware was developed through a partnership between students and researchers at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and CrossComm Inc.
